Segmental archway creates stunning front entrance

A new flagship academy building commissioned to provide teaching facilities for one of the UK’s leading public schools, designed by Adrian James Architects.

All Brick and Stone were appointed by the client to help source and supply bricks that would blend in with the original building. The architectural design complimented the surroundings and was both innovative and contemporary. With the main entrance dominating the structure, AB&S took on board the challenge of coordinating the design, approval and manufacture of a truly bespoke product. We were presented with a specific design requirement for a segmental arch across the front entrance of the building with a span of over 12 meters and a deep soffit return, therefore there were a number of structural engineering aspects to be considered to ensure the design could become a reality. Our team advised and helped appoint a partner that could undertake the extremely technical engineering challenges of this project.

All requirements were met and All Brick and Stone were able to deliver a stainless steel lintel in three pieces that enabled the practical delivery and installation of the brick clad arch onsite. All parties involved were more than satisfied with the end result – this scheme was a huge success and we have since used it to showcase to our clients what can be achieved with pre-fabricated brick products.
